What to Expect After the Hearing

How does the judge decide my case?

The judge will take time to review the facts presented at the hearing and read rules and laws that apply to your case. The judge must follow the law when making a decision. A judge cannot change or ignore a rule or law.

When will I get a decision?

The judge will not make a decision at the hearing.

In most cases, a written decision will be mailed to you within 18 days of the hearing.   If the judge has asked for additional documents, your decision may take longer.

What if I disagree with the decision?

If you disagree with the judge’s decision you have the right to appeal.  There will be instructions on how to appeal with the written decision.  Be sure to follow the instructions. There are strict deadlines and requirements.
